went in with sky-expectations for beef season 2 after devouring the lightning-in-a-bottle perfection that was season 1, and even if this can't quite usurp its predecessor, it's still a more than worthy follow-up that successfully broadens the scope of its subject matter and features career-best performances from oscar isaac and cailee spaeny. so many astute observations here on the state of modern romance (with some paralleling my own past so well it made me want to crawl out of my skin - in a good way!) and the endless climb to success and stability in this country that ultimately leaves most unfulfilled anyway. lee sung jin is such a wondrously unpredictable writer - something in short supply these days - and once again took me on one of the wildest rides of the year that left me with another crushing yet also cathartic conclusion. go in as blind as possible and let him take you too.
